Factory Tours

Did you know that lead oxide that is used to primarily make crystal is industrially called minium? Did you know that the difference between glass and crystal is that; crystal has a higher degree of sonority i.e produces clearer and higher sounds when struck? The more lead in the glass, the more colors are reflected; it is also the reason why crystal is heavier than glass.

Handcrafted crystal is distinct with its sharp cuts; i.e if you press your thumb against the pattern, it leaves an imprint. Occasionally handcrafted crystal will have a few small seed like air bubbles or flow lines, which happens when rising air gets trapped inside the crystal as it is being handcrafted. These air bubbles maybe visible to the eye or when held against strong light.

To highlight masterpieces, is done with great pride at Crystal Gallery; we love to create awareness about genuine handcrafted crystal ware, so we do encourage factory tours at our head office in Ras Al Khor, Dubai, which also houses our main showroom and all our production units.

Many organizations, academic institutions and individuals have benefited from these tours by way of differentiating between leaded crystal ware and glassware; between genuine handcrafted crystal and machine made crystal. You have the opportunity to watch our master craftsmen at work, how they create shapes along with deep and intricate design cuts from both the western and eastern parts of the world, products that are created from high end technology such as the water-jet machine which uses the speed of water to cut crystal!! You can also see how the vitro laser machine etches your own image, i.e 3D laser onto a crystal cube. It is a simple process wherein your image is captured in a special 3D camera, it is then converted into a laser file and the image is engraved in the sub surface of the crystal cube.
